Bordeaux and Biscarosse

As I arrived with my covoiturage at Bordeaux at the university center yesterday at about 7:30pm, Pierre picked me up with his car since he lived quite close. We had some nice talk and some nice beer waiting for his friend Margot. Later, we had some barbecue and played some game where you had to build up railway connections through all scandinavia. To understand the rules of the game all in French was quite difficult in the beginning but I think I got it. Later, I could update my couch requests for the next days of the trip as they already went to sleep. Today in the morning, Pierre took me for a great sightseeing tour through all Bordeaux, he showed me the greatest places and the smallest streets, the best pubs and the oldest cinemas.

The second greatest square in Europe is in Bordeaux

I really enjoyed what he showed me. Later back home we packed our stuff to go to Biscarosse for the weekend which is a nice little village on the seaside in the south of Bordeaux. On the way to get there I got an e-mail by a friend who I a have a special, not that easy relationship with, which made me think a lot. Maybe I'll find some time to answer that mail while hitchhiking, maybe I'll be able to answer only when I'll be back home. At Biscarosse, we bought some stuff to eat for the weekend and went to Margot's family's house next to a great lake to meet some friends to pass the weekend with. After some pizza we went to the lake to go swimming and playing frisbee. Later we went back to the house to have some ratatouille and barbecue and pass a nice evening. For the next day around noon I thought about leaving them hitchhiking to St-Jean-de-Luze, Hendaye, San Sebastian, even if I haven't got any positive answer from couchsurfing yet so far. Maybe I'll manage to get even to Bilbao tomorrow, but if not, I'll still have my tent...

Covoiturage Toulouse - Bordeaux

Covoiturage - that's a new french word meaning ride share. I mention this thinking of someone special reading this.
Mathieu and I arrived at about 10:00pm at Toulouse, both quite tired and ready to sleep. But it was no time to sleep yet because some of his friends invited him (and me, spontaneously, too) to have some barbecue, which actually took half the night and took place in the garden of a nice tiny apartment with Clément, Cindy and her brother. Although I did not understand everything what they were talking about, it was very nice to be there trying to follow their dialogues, having a drink and some sausages. We went to sleep at 3.00am being really tired. The next morning, we had some nice little brunch, he helped me to get a covoiturage and at 1:00pm we both left, Mathieu for work, I for a walk in the city until 5:15pm when I had to meet Khalid from the covoiturage to Bordeaux. The city of Toulouse was very nice, typical French, typical south. I walked along some little old streets and some great allys and nice parks.

triangled houses in Toulouse, too

Then I went to a Monoprix to buy some drink, some fruit and a baguette and went to the Wilson square to have a picknick and write in my travel diary, watching the people passing by. There was a homeless guy who saw my bag of oranges whom I gave him two of, there were several very beautiful women in nice summer dresses, most of them with a nice, relaxed and happy smile on their face. I definitely liked that place. Later I saw a flea market with very nice old furniture which Valentin (and others) would have liked a lot.

Finally I went to Barrière de Paris and met my covoiturage. There, I got to know two other words: 'boudu' (only known in Toulouse, an expression for astonishment, meaning something like 'oh boy') and 'fainéant, -e' (lazy, not willing to work). Very relaxing in a Mercedes Benz we arrived at Bordeaux where I finally could meet Pierre and his friend, already two days later than planned.
