Beam me to A Coruña, Alsa

I went to sleep very late because this time I wanted to put some pictures into my blog for the last day's postings. The next morning I wanted to gain some kilometers so I spent some money to get busses to Llanes, Gijon and finally to A Coruña. Llanes is a very beautiful village in the mountains where you can have extended, refreshing and exhausting hiking and mountain tours, probably one of the most beautiful spots in all Spain. The coach which brought me there had a massive delay of 45 minutes so my hike could just be 40 minutes instead of almost 2 hours as I wanted before. Anyways this was enough time to see how worth it was to stop there. Then I took another bus to Gijon where I had one hour to visit the city, which was not as beautiful as other cities I've seen before during this tour but still quite interesting with nice corners to find. I wished to get a covoiturage from Gijon to A Coruña but the woman offering it I was not able to text nor phone, so I took another, very comfortable bus - not that I searched for this comfort, but there was no other. Free Wifi, each seat with television, radio and 230V plugs to recharge the mobil phone etc. I could have it all at the same time: movies, chatting, surfing in the web, watching the northern coast of spain and take pictures of it while eating and drinking. This was so much over the top compared to what I wanted from this adventurous hitchhiking trip. At 9:30pm I expected to arrive at the very western part of Spain at my couchsurfing host.

Relax a little...(Bilbao)

Again we went to bed late and in the morning I got up quite late and stayed at home until noon since it was raining while Iñaki was at work. The language of this area, the Bask or Euskera, how they call it here, is really interesting. It is said that it is a real unique, very old language. It is neither connected to Latin nor to any Celtic language nor to the Indogermanic language family. The structure is very complex, it is a suffix based language (as known from the Finnish but even more complex) and has, so to say, for one Verb more than 30,000 forms. This is due to the fact that the suffixes depend not only on person, time, number and state but also on the direct and indirect object and their situation. As to me, I can't imagine speaking this language but it fascinates me because I have somehow the feeling that the origin of several languages and grammar structures might have started like the Euskera in the beginning and were revised, structured, restructured, simplified over time until we have a language with only one article and almost no conjugation and declination as the English language. So I'd like to put some more attention on the Euskera from time to time. I met Iñaki for lunch in the city again. He wanted to show me some Pintxos today. But we changed plans, because for the evening we wanted to meet a friend to have Pintxos with, so we decided for another traditional and typical meal like Txipirones en su Tinta and Helado, the other names I just can't remember. On the table next to ours was a girl sitting with her mother and, after we all finished eating and were about to leave, it happened that the girl and I got in contact. Although she couldn't speak English very well and my Spanish was even worse, we managed to tell each other about what we were doing. So I got to know that she studied Euskera and was about to finish her studies soon. Then we had Iñaki with us who could help with the language barrier and so we spent all the afternoon and even evening talking with her in a cafe. We exchanged our Facebook details and recommended couchsurfing to her, then she got interested in studying in Germany and we promised to stay in contact at least to help each other learning languages, me her with German and English and she me with Euskera and Spanish. I think it's obvious that I like her (and that I talked to her in the first place while she was about to leave). Of course Iñaki and I have had other plans for the afternoon, but it was a really sweet change probably by some higher power that we decided not to have Pintxos for lunch.
