Thoughts during another night outside

Well, I made it to a petrol station close to St. Étienne, finally I had the right direction to Bordeaux so I thought I'd get there the next day. At midnight I left the station by feet to find a place for my tent and found one next to a field where were cows on it; one of them was coughing.
I thought I would feel uncomfortable just having my sleeping bag under the open sky and I thought about why is that so. First, because I would not like some insects biting me or falling into my mouth/nose/ear while I sleep. Second, because I don't want to wake up wet because of rain during nighttime or humidity in the morning. Third, I want to have my stuff all with me and - I think that's the point - keep it and myself in some sort of room seperate from others, from nature, from nature's non controllable random influences. So man, actually a child of nature, always tries to control nature which is next to him, doesn't want it to grow, walk, fly, rain without him to control where and how much it does. Indians and some other non-civilized people probably wouldn't do so or at least not to that extend so called civilized man does...
Another thing I am thinking of: I make this trip most time all alone. Not that I am unhappy about that, I am asking myself, who would actually like to share such kind of life for about 5 weeks with me? I mean, for me it's no problem to wait for hours for someone who would take me to some place. It's no problem to wake up in the morning and not having any shower. It's no problem to eat a few nuts, some cookies and one baguette without anything on it for the whole day without being hungry. It's no problem to drink water from the rest room filled in bottles all the day. It's no problem having long distances to walk by feet. And so on. Since I choose it like this for me, the one coming with me should happily choose it the same or almost the same way, not crying for food, shower, public transport and so on...

Make the best of Lyon

Aire de Lyon-Montluel - that was the farest I could get yesterday. Until midnight I continued asking people whether they go direction St. Etienne or Clermont-Ferrand but within four hours there were just about five cars stopping for fuel or coffee but which unfortunately weren't able to give me a lift to pass Lyon. I didn't want to enter Lyon that evening because I wasn't sure where to stay for the night. Best would have been if I organized a couch before but I hadn't. So around midnight I found a nice place for my tent somewhere behind some lorries. There was another hitchhiker, an old man with many parts of baggage on some sort of a wagon who had many signs for many destinations with him who was heading to Marseille. To me, he was a bit strange since he had so much to carry and since he did not talk to people - many were just going south direction Marseille - but he did not look like a homeless person. The next morning he was still there - as I was. After some hours he left with his wagon and a few minutes later I decided to enter Lyon and leave it according to what I found at hitchbase.com (because this page is easily accessible with only little data traffic if you don't have a roaming flatrate - like I do. If you have it, use the map of hitchwiki.org).

I like thos triangled houses; empty streets in Lyon

In Lyon I decided to get some juice to drink but at the Part-Dieu station and around there was nothing for an affordable price. Besides, the streets were almost empty. Some people were sitting in and in front of those very expensive cafés and snack bars, and if I say expensive I mean it: e.g. 5,- € for just a simple bread with cheese and so on. Then I went to the Part-Dieu shopping mall and I had the impression the streets were empty because everybody was just there in the shopping mall. I found what I wanted and then followed the instructions from hitchbase: At Part-Dieu I took the train to Perrache and changed here to a train to Grenoble which passed at Vénissieux. There, I took the bus nr. 35 or 39 (have to check it - the info on hitchbase is not fully correct) direction Solaize Mairie which will become nr. 60 later.

Solaize
There I followed as mentioned in hitchbase Rue 11ème Novembre, Rue Chantabeau and Rue du Rhône, then down the hill that little street passing the railways and two roundabouts leading on the highway A7. At the second roundabout I turned right and entered the area of ifp where on the other end the petrol station was said to be. Someone even advices you to walk outside that area along the fence next to the highway. Well, the area I chose was a dead end with barbed wire, but all along the highway should be no alternative, there must be another through all the industrial zone. I checked it and actually that's the way mentioned on hitchbase, because at the end after walking all along the ifp area and the total research area there was a wall behind that you could see and hear the highway. The wall was about 2m high but at the corner with the fence it was easy to climb. Finally I got to Aire Solaize, direction St. Etienne et Clermont-Ferrand.
